Under our special education programme we tackle learning disabilities and illiteracy. This is a twelve-month programme that starts at the beginning of the summer holiday in selected community centers. It is targeted to 6 -12 years. The summer programme is a camp and workshop which continues weekdays 9:00am to 3:00pm for two months. During this time, participants are assessed to ascertain their shortcomings. They are grouped according to learning disabilities and processing problems that can interfere with learning necessary skills such as reading, writing and/or math. Children are also assessed for abstract reasoning, memory and attention. After the assessment they are put in a 9-month evening learning programme geared to work in tandem with their school term and carried out in a small workgroup setting at the community center.
